Seven current and former WUSTL students, collectively known as “The Force,” took home the top prize of $50,000 during the GlobalHack event held last weekend at Union Station in St. Louis.

As St. Louis marks the 250th anniversary of the city’s founding, WUSTL scholars will join others from across the nation to explain the city’s historical significance during a daylong symposium on Friday, Feb. 14. WUSTL is co-sponsoring the event, which is being held at the Missouri History Museum.

An international team of researchers has sequenced the genome of the elephant shark, a curious-looking fish with a snout that resembles the end of an elephant’s trunk. Lead researcher Byrappa Venkatesh, PhD, of A*STAR in Singapore, holds an elephant shark (right).

I-CARES (the International Center for Advanced Renewable Energy and Sustainability) has released its 2014 call for research proposals. I-CARES will award up to $500,000 in seed funding for innovative research projects to tenured and tenure-track faculty at WUSTL.
